Telecom Nr – Network rollout / Deployment Process

Planning, designing, building, operating and managing telecom network is a technically complex undertaking. Each of these stages involves multiple stakeholders not just the investors but various internal and external actors, complex tasks, using of different types of equipment at each stage, coordination with various authorities, installation and commissioning, managing issues, measuring service levels, monitoring network with various sensors and devices are few to name.

Existing operation procedures do not fulfil the requirements in managing various network resources facilitating the quick and easy introduction of new service or providing flexibility and scalability for existing services. These issues can easily be avoided by establishing an effectively coordinated and integrated end to end chain where the right expertise and tools can efficiently drive the service delivery and remove any significant cost from the chain. This involves automation, execution, control, modelling, measurement and the optimization of business activity flows.

The importance of streamlining operation procedures is of utmost value in industries with repetitive procedures at high volumes. It is the key factor that helps to reduce operational cost, improve productivity and deliver a consistent customer experience.

The capability of this approach is that the required changes can be narrowed and broken down to small understandable blocks and completed over a time. Each change is a step in the right direction and this type of progressive approach also sets the standards for continuous improvement. Everyone involved in here becomes used to the ongoing change and the pursuit of improvement becomes ingrained.

To address these challenges, Network Rollout / Deployment (Nr) process has been designed as a complete end to end solution that is used to automate the procedures of managing various Network Resources inside an organization. It is built on eTOM Standard Operation Procedures thereby mitigating the amount of effort needed to perform, manage and report on operational procedures. Telecom Nr allows automating the configuration, management, testing, deployment, and operations of physical and virtual network resources within an FIBER NETWORK / FTTx network. It is a powerful tool for network operators needing to reduce their operations and maintenance costs and improve service performance

Network Rollout / Deployment (Nr) is built to help companies build shared procedures that leverages eTOM standards. It provides complete insights into business operations, making it easy to predict, architect and enable interactions using multiple channels and various points. It makes companies to easily interact with the underlying technology even without any knowledge on technologies like Webservices, database or xml. Our SOP’s will reduce the risk caused by gaps with in operations and overtime it enables developers to shift their interest from managing individual functions to integrating activities into interconnected procedures.

Nr offers a complete integration of products that are required for the operational management and planning of various network resources and enablement of procedures from service fulfilment to readiness, strategic planning and delivery.

Nr is built to withstand the complexity of evolving hybrid technologies by providing robust operational framework that are easy to configure, integrate, deploy, reliable and future proof. This allows organizations to avoid any excess operational cost and transform their digital operations to delivery services quickly and effectively.

Network Roll-out

Network Roll-out identifies specific clusters and home passes to roll out network and an acceptance test is carried out to approve the Roll-out network. The scope starts right from finalizing the As-plan design generated by the design team and getting approval from project management team.

The Rollout process in Nr includes, this below flow shows how we can achieve an automated and highly efficient communication between companies and their contractors to roll-out the network.

  • Design generation – Network Layout & design is created in the application on the selected cluster. The design plan generated is then sent to PMO for approval.
  • Network Build-Out – PMO analyses and approves the design plan and assigns it for Roll-Out.
  • Implementation- Roll Out team will use the approved design plan for building the physical network
  • ATP / UAT – ATP shall perform the acceptance testing for the built Network and send it for PMO approval
  • Dashboards for better insights

The typical rollout activity flow is as below:

The below participants are used to ensure all are aware of their responsibilities and perform their task within SLA to achieve maximum productivity by providing précised insights.

The complete procedure is aligned to 3 participants:

  • PMO
  • Roll-Out Team
  • ATP Team

After the Design is generated, the project reaches PMO in the application for Design approval & Initiate Build-Out. The workflow is an approval/assignment procedure for both Roll-out and ATP.

Design Approval

The Designs ready for Build-Out will be displayed. PMO shall click “Initiate Build-Out” to analyze, verify and can Reject or initiate Roll-Out.
PMO shall select “Initiate Build-Out” to analyze, verify and can Reject or initiate Roll-Out.

Rollout

The approved Designs are displayed on when Roll-Out team logs into the application. They shall verify the design and can attach any required documents. The status shall be “Roll-Out Assignment”
The Project can be Rejected or Assigned for Implementation
The Status changes to “Roll-Out Implementation”.
At this stage, the physical assets are installed as per the design plan.

Initiate ATP

Initially, the network rolled-out will be recreated on the map and then assigned to a team to carry out User Acceptance Test. A new enquiry or Job will be created with the ATP team (workforce management), the enquiry will be logged and a job will be created to carry out the work.

ATP

“Updated Job Status “will fetch the current status of the Job with the team.
Based on the Status of the Enquiry, ATP can be completed or cancelled or put on hold. If the job is completed, user can select “ATP completed”.
After ATP completion, the project is sent for final approval to PMO.

Cost Comparison – Planned vs Actual

The PMO will have the drill down of cost comparison – As-plan BOM and As-built BOM. The PMO can view the cost comparison before the final approval of the implementation project.

PMO Approval

PMO shall review the project and can either Approve/Reject the As Build.

Map view – View site by different status

The Map view would show the network assets- sites, etc. based on the approval stage. This helps the PMO, Planners, O&M team to view the network of various stage as and when the approval of each stage is successful.

Telecom Nr can be effectively used to automate Operations procedures like:

  • Network Build Out Procedure
  • Management of various network resources not limited to passive assets
  • Civil Works Preparation & Approval
  • Wayleave & Work Permit
  • Civil & Fiber Works
  • Acceptance & Rectification
  • Site Access Procedure
  • Installation and Testing of Core Equipment
  • Acceptance Test and Handover Equipment
  • Engineering Services and Equipment Procurement Procedure
  • Procurement Installation Materials
  • SOP for Network Equipment Decommission

Telecom Nr has pre-configured During Roll-out phase of network life cycle, the network build-out capabilities help to assign design to vendors for roll-out and track the progress. This also has capability to assist ATP process by validating the rolled-out network on field.

The Network Rollout / Deployment capabilities helps to create and automate any process involving the approval management. The Network process dashboard lets users to easily track the status of approval and the required action to be taken, thus fast tracking the approval process and meeting the SLA.
